Hope’s Chest Inc. is a non-profit organization that is unique to Cleveland County, North Carolina. We are not your typical rescue group, but a unique organization that focuses on providing medical and surgical care to shelter animals referred to us by Cleveland County Animal Services. When stray animals come into the animal shelter with serious medical conditions or injuries, Hope’s Chest is contacted. We examine the animal and provide the medical/surgical care that is necessary. If no owner comes forward, we continue to care for the pet until we can find their “forever home.” We are a veterinary medical fund specifically providing the resources to provide advanced treatment and care for the homeless animals from our community’s animal shelter.

The idea of Hope’s Chest began soon after Hope Animal Hospital was built in 2009. After seeing the lack of resources for veterinary care at our county’s shelter, Dr. Lawrence became an advocate for the homeless animals in Cleveland County. Working closely with the shelter’s staff and Animal Control Officers, she began to provide essential medical and surgical care for these homeless pets. Hope’s Chest Inc. became an official non-profit organization in 2013.

None of this would have happened without the love and support from Dr. Lawrence’s “family” at Hope Animal Hospital and beyond. The amazing staff of Hope Animal Hospital continues to give their time and hearts to these precious animals, caring for them daily and helping with their recovery. Hope Animal Hospital’s clients help by donating their personal pet’s medications and other supplies to Hope’s Chest…these acts of kindness are greatly appreciated. And of course, with the help of our wonderful volunteers and through community outreach, we have been blessed to have the support of the community. As a result, we have been able to provide medical and surgical care to over 1,000 shelter pets…animals that otherwise would never have received veterinary care.
